Personalisation by Pieces
The Personalisation by Pieces (PbyP) approach has been devised by Cambridge Education to support teachers in developing effective personalisation in their school.
The approach is based on learners and teachers working together to achieve specific learning goals within a systematic framework of skills ladders. Each learner builds a skills profile and a portfolio of the evidence used to achieve it. Each skill ladder is devised from a skill recommended by the QCA or DCSF and graduated in nine points from early primary to professional. This enables every learner to start at and progress to an appropriate level. We have a range of sets of skills ladders for schools to choose from. Within the chosen set each learner can work on different ladders.
The PbyP approach allows each learner to be in control of their own skills targets whilst allowing teachers to closely monitor their evidence and success.
Central to the PbyP approach is the use of self and peer assessment and the use of evidence from outside as well as in school. The secure website hosts a system which automatically sends evidence for peer assessment to learners in other schools who have achieved the skill at that level themselves. Underlying the success of the PbyP approach and system is that all users are learners and assessors.

The detail of both the development of the approach and the pedagogical thinking underpinning it form the basis of the book, The Personalisation by Pieces Framework (£195 ex VAT).
